But we were back in February for a new year of building. Ten builders and six assistants (parents) met on February 2. The theme was February Fun and builders could choose a project based on the Superbowl or Valentine's Day. Let's see what some of them came up with:

A cozy house where friends gather to watch the game, or where flowers are delivered on Valentine's Day. Or both!

Even though our photographer can't control the flash, we can see this is a very nice Valentine's Day rose.

Another beautiful flower, this one in an arrangement (we really must speak to that photographer!).

We've gotten behind in posting our LEGO Club updates. Time flies! We've had a good year and a lot of fun. Let's look at some of the projects we've seen:

And our final project from 2015: a Dinosaur and his house! Since our last meeting was December 29, there will be no meeting next week in January. Looking forward to the first Tuesday in February and our next LEGO Club adventure!

]]><![CDATA[LEGO Club Update, Mar. 24, 2015]]>Tue, 07 Apr 2015 17:07:59 GMThttps://www.flora.lib.in.us/lego-club-blog/lego-club-update-mar-24-2015It happened again: our March 3 meeting was cancelled due to the weather! Not a thing we could do about it. We were glad we had scheduled a special Spring Break event for March 24. And, boy, was it special! The Community Center Day Camp kids came, along with many of our regular members. It was a building bonanza! Luckily, there were enough snacks for everyone. Also, it was good to see kids working on collaborative projects and sharing their building squares. There just weren't quite enough to go around. But, everyone got to build, we had a great time, and we look forward to the next time!

As you can see, we had miles of smiles! WAY too many projects for the display case, but we got a few in, just the tip of the iceberg, but a nice reminder of all the fun we had.

No surprise, but it made us pretty sad. Then it was time for our February meeting. Same story! Lousy weather! The conditions weren't ideal, but we decided to go for it anyway and didn't really promote the event until the day of. Nine intrepid builders braved the elements and came to the library. Since we didn't even know if we could have the meeting, we didn't have a theme planned. Builders were told to do something wintery, or just do Freestyle. Here's what they created:

And here are all the projects together! Pretty impressive! Alas, we just couldn't fit all of them in the display case, but there are several there now for you to enjoy. Stay warm and we will look forward to seeing you on March 3rd!

You can't go wrong with a Christmas theme! These projects looked nice with our holiday decorations this season.

We had a special Lego Club event on December 29: Freestyle Lego! 19 kids and 2 teens came and built whatever their imaginations told them to build. There were snacks, too!

It was a busy afternoon, and fun to get together with friends over the school break.

Our next Lego Club meeting is Tuesday, January 6, 6:30 p.m. Don't miss it!

The Lego Club met in July, September, and October. Here are some pictures. We saw a Lego dragon, duck, giant chicken, a penguin, and a tractor among other projects. Ah, memories!

Last night at our November meeting the theme was (wait for it) Thanksgiving! Our group interpreted the holiday many different ways and EVERYONE GOT INTO THE DISPLAY CASE! Well, their projects did. Let's take a look at some of our happy builders:

Finally, here are the Thanksgiving projects:

A small, vegetarian feast.

The guests wait for the cook to serve it up. Note the big oven. They're having crab! (Do dogs like crab?)

Another feast. Note the vehicle parked nearby. You have to get over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house somehow!

What would Thanksgiving be without the Mayflower?

Turkey factory with monster trucks. We had no idea.

Want eat turkey, must kill turkey. This giant bird will feed many people!

Everything looked really yummy but we only have room for six projects in our display case. Here they are:

This is a very inventive collaborative piece with a complicated story. What do YOU think?

It was a small, but happy, group last night. School was out for the summer earlier in the day and there was a lot going on between awards night at the high school and 4-H meetings. The theme was BUGS and there was enough imagination on hand to fill the room!

Almost everyone built something last night, grownups, too! We'll put as many as we can in the display case. Let's look at what everyone made:

Yikes! Call the exterminators! This was our last evening program for the summer. We will start meeting during the day as part of Summer Reading. We thought maybe we wouldn't see as many builders because baseball has started, but we had even more! 23 children, 1 teen, and 13 adults came to the library to build and socialize. The theme was DINOSAURS, and this group knew just what to do!

There were interesting and creative Dinosaur projects. It seems many new varieties have been discovered over the years. Here are the examples that will be displayed at the library until our next meeting:

The theme for the evening was TRANSPORTATION. It's amazing what you can do with that theme and Legos! Let's look at some pictures:

As you can see, there was a wide age-range of builders. Very serious business! At the end of the meeting, there was a show-and-tell and everyone got to talk about their projects. While it's not a competition, we did select six projects to display until the next meeting to show visitors to the library what the Lego Club is all about. Check the display case on the first floor the next time you are in the library. Here are the projects on display:
